Embracing My Ancestral Heritage

My name is Melissa Herrera. I am the great-granddaughter and great-niece of curanderas, the traditional medicine women of my lineage. My great-grandmother serves as a constant guide in my life, especially in my work with energy and spirit.

There has always been an innate understanding of the sensitivities involved in my energy work. Yet, for much of my life, I expressed myself in different ways. For nearly two decades, my focus was on revealing the beauty that lies within our outer layers.

The Art of Transformation

Bringing forth physical features through the art of makeup has been a gift. This journey allowed me to meet incredible individuals and travel to places I had only dreamed of as a child. I began my cosmetic journey in New Jersey. As a theater kid, I was fascinated by how makeup could transform anyone into anything. Alongside makeup services, I also offered facial and body waxing. Throughout Monmouth County, I connected with people who helped me grow both personally and in my craft.

Los Angeles opened doors for me to participate in photo shoots and red carpet events. I learned techniques to highlight beauty under bright lights. New York became my home for nearly a decade. Immersed in a vibrant artistic culture, I worked with a vegan and cruelty-free makeup brand. This role allowed me to travel across the US, parts of Canada, and even London, educating others on artistry and trending techniques.

Deepening Connections

Through these experiences, I connected with individuals from all walks of life in creative spaces. As I applied makeup and styled hair, my interactions evolved into deeper experiences that transcended mere beauty. I began to form soul connections that led me to step away from a fast-paced lifestyle and embark on a journey of inner knowing.

In 2015, I moved to my paternal home in Costa Rica. There, I served in a retreat nestled in the jungles of the Nicoya Peninsula. This experience deepened my connection to nature and my heritage. In 2018, I became a mother, marking a significant shift within my energetic field. That same year, I received my Reiki attunement.

Embracing Transformation

Life has presented its challenges, but I now recognize that the breaking of my old self allowed a more aware and powerful version of me to emerge. The women of my maternal lineage were curanderas, resilient women who faced trials and tribulations. Their experiences taught me that I needed to navigate my own challenges to step into this role myself. Many who have received Reiki from me have expressed feeling the ancestral power reflected in their sessions.

Healing Through Reiki and Sound

Reiki and sound healing have become invaluable allies on my personal healing journey. I am grateful to share these gifts with those who are open to receiving them. We all seek healing, not because we have lived easy lives, but because we search for the medicine we need to persevere. This journey allows us to create our own medicine, which can help those who come after us.

It is an absolute honor to be part of the portal of Artemis Ethos. I am grateful to offer services that blend my trade of connecting with others through beauty and the energy work that has allowed me to connect with myself.
